Terms you should know about 3D:
Immersive: (Of a computer display or system) generating a three-dimensional image that appears to surround the user.
Three-Dimensional(3D): Having or appearing to have length, breadth, and depth .
First Person Shooter(FPS): is a video game genre that centers the gameplay on gun and projectile weapon-based combat through first-person perspective
Frames-Per-Second(FPS): The amount of frames that are displayed in a second... duh.
1973-74:
The first first-person shooters and immersive 3d games can be traced as far back as 1973 with Maze War, development of which began in 1973, and 1974's Spasim.
Maze War can be considered the first FPS game. The game let you move forward, backwards and left and right in 90 degree increments. Where Spasim can be considered the very first "3D" game that used polygons. It also can be considered the first massively multiplayer online game(MMO) and/or the first multiplayer FPS. It allowed 4 teams of 8 for a total of 32 players to duke it out and also message(which I'm sure was full of trolling and taunting) each other
