Using the normalised view of the data, the following comments can be made:
1. Bearings have shown considerable improvement due to a condition motoring program started in 2004.
2. It is disappointing to see Drive problems increased – this primarily refers to electric motor issues.
3. It is a characteristic of plants where PM improvement is very much needed is that “simple” failure modes persist.
Examples of what we call simple failure modes include chains and belts. Both of these modes are on the top 10 list and
we would consider these modes as being amenable to treatment by improvement in routine PM work. We noted that belt
related problems have increased and chain drives have remained steady.
4. Issues with conveyor belts are increasing, which need further attention.
