The importance of the GNH survey to determining cultural shift in Bhutan is enormous; by studying responses, political scientists and sociologists can gain remarkably detailed information on the overall cultural health of the nation. Contained within the battery of questions are a number of measures of cultural significance, including measures of how individuals view the values of others, including children and young adults. Included also are questions that measure the worry of people about the nature and significance of changes they see occurring in their local culture and values. These measure such factors as family values, social cohesion, whether they attend traditional festivals, how much television their children watch per day, and if they are seeing more drugs and violence on the streets (Bakshi 2005; Leaming 2007; Rivkin 2005; Schell 2002; Sonne 2011).
