DRC is
able to remove interferences before they reach the quadrupole mass
spectrometer. For example, 40Ar from the plasma gas can react with
35Cl from the sample matrix to make 40Ar35Cl at 40 + 35 = 75 unified
atomic mass units. This is the same mass as 75As; therefore, DRC is
used to remove 40Ar35Cl so that it does not interfere with the measurement
of 75As. DRC improves detection limits for many difficult to
measure elements (Perkin Elmer, 2004).
