Spanish Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) and BBVA signed the extension of their strategic partnership until the end of the 2015/16 season.
In an act that took place in New York City, on 11 June, the presidents of both the LFP and BBVA signed an agreement that foresees the prolongation of BBVA as title sponsor of the Spanish premier division, Liga BBVA, and of the bank’s motto “Adelante” (Forward, in Spanish) with the first division, Liga Adelante.
The new deal includes an option to extend the partnership until the end of the 2017/18 season and foresees an investment of 70 million euros, i.e. 23.5 million euros per season.
La Liga players and BBVA global ambassadors, Iker Casillas (Real Madrid) and Andres Iniesta (FC Barcelona), attended the signing ceremony in the Big Apple.
BBVA Chairman Francisco González said: “Our partnership with La Liga strengthens our business in all continents. For us, the extension of this partnership is a natural step that we take with great enthusiasm. Since we join forces with the LFP in 2006, we have made a great progress in the internationalisation of the League, so we continue to support them to enhance its diffusion in the United States, Latin America and Asia.”
LFP President Javier Tebas highlighted the commitment of both institutions: “from the beginning of our relationship we knew that BBVA was not just another partner but THE PARTNER for us. We share the same values, the same spirit of sacrifice, teamwork, transparency and innovation.
“The name Liga BBVA means both sporting fineness and the excellence represented by BBVA’s financial practices, while Liga Adelante represents the improvement achieved through effort.”
