We are not aware of explicit measurements of the relaxation times for conditions relevant for the SG-experiment. However, there has been a report on the study of intra-molecular relaxation effects on different molecules passing the SG-apparatus.24 Thus we will treat these relaxation times as parameters. For case (iii), with rapid relaxation of both spin degrees of freedom there is only a negligible polarization of the spin when passing through the magnet resulting in a negligible net force on the particle and only one type of trajectory. This is not in accordance with the experimental observation. Furthermore we argued above that the expected T1 relaxation is long. Thus we concluded that we can neglect the T1 relaxation in the context of the SG experiment. The central question of this paper is which of the cases (i) and (ii) applies for the original SG-experiment
