Abstract:
Prescription compounding is a rapidly growing component of the physician's armamentarium. In addition to efficacy issues, it appeals to a significant segment of the population who misses what medicine used to be. The physician who spends time to listen to and educate his/her patient will capture the trust, closeness, and respect the profession once commanded.A recent report notes that many physicians only listen to their patients for an average of 17 seconds before interrupting them. The extra moments spent while preparing a compounded script may just be the spark to renew and reaffirm a mutually rewarding relationship.Integrating compounded medicines into one's medical practice is simple. It requires no special equipment or financial investment on behalf of the doctor. It will take a minimal amount of your time to develop a relationship with a compounding pharmacist and gain the necessary knowledge to write a compounded script. This investment of time will yield far greater dividends than you may expect.
