Under the lmmigration reform and control act of 1986 employees hired in the united states have to prove they are eligible to be employed in the united states. A person does not have to be a U.S. citizen to be employed under this act. However employers should ask a person who is about to be hired whether he or she is a U.S. citizen or an alien law fully authorized to work in the united states.
