This study also found that specific mention of some UVR risk reduction strategies occurred more frequently (eg, use sunscreen, wear clothing, and stay out of the sun
during peak hours) than others (eg, indoor tanning or do not burn). Despite methodological differences, this pattern of uneven emphasis or incomplete mention of
all UVR risk-reducing strategies within skin cancer prevention news stories was similarly observed in a previous study,4 although the latter assessed only 4
behaviors (specific terms included ‘minimizing sun exposure’, wearing protective clothing’, using sunscreen’, and ‘avoiding indoor tanning’), whereas this study reported on 7 recommended behaviors as described in the Results section. Furthermore, methodological differences among studies preclude a clear assessment of whether improvements have occurred over time in the content-related coverage of skin
cancer prevention.
