Dear Parents of Year 6 students,
My name is Kevin McGee and I am the Head of the Secondary School at St Andrews Green Valley. In about one month your child will finish year 6 and no longer be a primary school student. I am therefore writing to you today to let you know the different things that are taking place to help get your child ready for their move into the Secondary School:
Year 6 students have already been given Year 7 buddies to help answer their questions about secondary. It is important that year 6 students are able to get a student's perspective on the transition from primary to secondary.
Year 7 buddies have already had a question and answer session with Year 6 students about the Year 6 Exhibition.
We plan, over the next month, to run more activities during morning tutor time and Mrs Greener will deliver a more formal presentation to year 6 once the Exhibition is completed.
Before the end of the school year, year 6 students will attend a Y7 – 9 morning assembly.
On Monday June 20 and Tuesday June 21 Year 6 students will have a day in secondary school so that they can meet future teachers and get the idea of moving more frequently from classroom to classroom.
On Monday June 13 from 3.40pm we are also holding a Parent and Student Meeting about moving up to Secondary School. We will discuss what is expected and how life might be different in Year 7. There will be opportunities for parents to ask questions about what will be studied and what can be done before August to make sure their child is as prepared as possible. We strongly encourage both parents and year 6 students to attend this meeting.
To give you a little taste of the events which take place in Secondary, here is the link to the May Edition of the Spotlight on Secondary Newsletter. http://vle.standrews-schools.com/newsletter/spotlight-on-secondary
