With its colossal 46x15 metre Reclining Buddha statue, exquisite mural paintings and Thai massage centre to sooth travellers' weary bodies, it is no wonder that Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklararm, better known as Wat Pho, was named Thailand's most popular landmark tourist attraction this year.
The temple was recently given the honour of a Travellers' Choice Award, by well-known travel website TripAdvisor, due to its unique architecture and intricate detail, beautiful stupas and gigantic reclining Buddha statue.
Sonja Noel, 36, a German tourist, couldn't agree more with the choice. She was so impressed with the grandiose temple that she spent several hours exploring and taking pictures of the Reclining Buddha, stupas decorated in ceramic pottery flowers and colourful tiles, exquisite murals, comical looking Chinese statutes, and yogi figures that show various poses of the Thai massage techniques.
"Everything is worth seeing here. There is plenty of incredible artwork, but what I like the most is the Reclining Buddha because its size is stunning and I felt a sense of peace when I was in the building," Ms Nöel said.
