At his office in Chiang Mai, Kara recalls his entrepreneurial experience. Although not from a business background, he had an innate gasp of commercial principles: “I was the kid at school who sold copied CDs and tapes. I like to trade, and to sell – always to generate cash.”
Kara spotted his first commercial opportunity when he left school at 16 to become a tyre fitter at a car dealership in Chiang Mai. He realized that profits could be made from supplying high- performance tyres. He got his friends and family for give him a small loan of ฿5,000 and set up a
small mail order business from a room in his parents’ house. The venture was successful, but the lack of financial backing proved frustrating. Aged 21, he was hired by a medium sized tire production plant to run their e-commerce business. He quit his job after he learned that he would have to wait 30 years to achieve his ambition of becoming CEO. He admits freely that he wants “things done yesterday”.
