McGrath’s Time, Interaction, and Performance model (1991) views group
development from the dual dimensions of four modes of activity (inception,
technical problem solving, conflict resolution, and execution) and three functional
roles (production, well-being, and support). The TIP model recognizes that
different teams might follow different development paths, with the only required
modes of activity being inception and execution. The functional roles of
production, well-being, and support manifest themselves in a unique way for any
given work group, depending on the composition of individual members of the
group and the nature of their sets of individual relationships.
