In order to measure moral development according to Kohlberg's
theory, reliable and valid instruments are necessary to use. DIT (Rest,
1979) is one such instrument that is grounded in the theory but
assumes some changes of the original thinking (Auvinen et al., 2004).
This instrument is developed in the American cultural context and is
commercialised and, therefore, difficult to use in low budget research
in other countries. It is also timeconsuming to use andmay be regarded
as a quite complicated instrument not suitable for screening studies.
Furthermore, it is always quite difficult to translate an instrument into
another language and use it in another culture (Streiner and Norman,
2003).
