I had an interesting conversation with a representative of the European Commission today regarding problems we are having with my wife's visa to go to France. Whilst they are not allowed to talk to the airline for us they are investigating the French Embassy for breaking EU law. When I went to the embassy in Bangkok they told me to apply for a visa through their contractor, TLScontact, and said that they would not help us at the embassy because i'm not French. Under EU law they should have issued a visa free of charge and straight away, whereas we have been charged a fee and we are having to wait at least until the end of the week. I was advise on what I should do now and what I should say to the embassy if the visa does not arrive on time. If for some reason the visa is not granted they will take over and get it sorted as it is my right under EU law to take my wife to any EU country other than the UK and a visa can only be refused on terrorism or public health grounds.
