The nursing care provided to women with GDM is being increasingly emphasized during the prenatal care, as this is an illness with high rates of prevalence. Approximately 7% of all pregnancies worldwide are complicated by diabetes which occurs during pregnancy, resulting in more than 200,000 cases per year, and representing 90% of the cases of this illness. Prevalence can vary from 1 to 14%, depending on the population studied and the diagnostic tests employed(4).
