Do I need to ask for the employees’ consent?
No, you may not normally ask for employees’ consent. Using employees’ data – strictly for the business purposes described above – is part of the working relationship we have with them. This means that processing of employee data is in almost all cases only possible if a legitimate business purpose exists. In some countries, however, local law does require us to ask employees for their consent. And by way of exception, you may ask employees for their consent to use their personal data if this is not for a business purpose as outlined above (like adding a photo to an intranet site). But you may only do so if this involves no foreseeable disadvantage for the employee. Privacy Manual – Employees working with employee personal data
