The enumeration of total V. parahaemolyticus through colony hybridization (Table 1) showed contamination levels ranging from 2 × 100 to 3.8 × 103 CFU(colony-forming unit)/g in Sardinia (geometric mean 84 CFU/g) and from 5 × 100 to 1.1 × 103 CFU/g in Veneto (geomet-ric mean 73 CFU/g) and the highest contaminations in the two regional monitoring programs were detected respectively in one Mytilus sample (8.7 × 103 CFU/g) and in one Crassostrea sample (2.1 × 103 CFU/g).
