More than 200 people, including the manager and players of Leicester City, participated in the Bike for Dad event in London on Friday.
Thai students and residents in London gathered at Lee Valley VeloPark, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, for the cycling activity to commemorate His Majesty the King's birthday on December 5. Despite the winter temperature hovering around 9 degrees Celsius, they rode their bicycles amid the cold breeze for three kilometres. Thailand's ambassador to the UK Kittiphong na Ranong welcomed the participants in his opening speech before leading the ride.
He said "I know it's Friday and everyone has work but to see hundreds of Thais taking their bikes for the event shows the great respect they have for the King," he said.
Kittipong also thanked the manager and players of Leicester City who played their part in the event.
Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri said he was very happy to participate in the event and was looking forward to seeing Thais celebrate the holidays. "We have a strong relationship with Thais and we are happy to be here today," the Italian manager said.
English Premier League top goal scorer Jamie Vardy arrived at the park with a big smile and said: "We are always happy to do things for a good cause, we hope this will make Thais happy too."
Leicester City will take on Chelsea on Monday and the team travelled to London last night to stay near VeloPark. The team will take a bus ride back to Leicester straight after the training session. Defender Wes Morgan joked with The Nation's reporter "We will make sure we don't get injured doing this."
