THIAZOLIDINEDIONES (GLITAZONES)
Thiazolidinedione anti-diabetics act as selective agonists at the
peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR) to
improve insulin sensitivity in adipose tissue, skeletal muscle and
the liver allowing increased uptake of glucose for energy and
storage. Therefore, like metformin, they require a degree of
enduring endogenous insulin secretion for their therapeutic
efficacy.
