Recently, researchers have presented many
results and conjectures that provide some
insight on allocating Kanbans. We highlight
some of the more important studies that deal
with allocating a given total number of
Kanbans, N, over a given number of worksta-
tions, M. Mitra and Mitrani [14] investigated
the allocation of a given total number of
Kanbans among workstations to maximize the
average throughput rate. They considered a
single item, multi-stage serial system with
Kanban discipline, a single server in each
workstation, and assumed unlimited demand
