After launching the V40 hatchback in the Thai premium car market last year, Volvo has added a new variant to the range in the guise of the V40 Cross Country.
One might be inclined to call the V40 Cross Country an SUV, but it’s actually just a raised version of the hatch donor car with an approximately 40mm higher ride height and bespoke design details such as daytime running lights, different coloured bumpers, roof rails and a rear skid plate.
Volvo first used this formula in the V70 Cross Country, although it must be noted that the benefactor was a proper estate. The V40, instead, is a style-led hatchback.
The V40 Cross Country is sold with a 213hp 2.0-litre five-cylinder petrol-turbo engine, six-speed automatic and front-wheel-drive transmission and is priced at 1.92 million baht — 100k more than what the similarly specified V40 hatch asks.
Although several of Volvo’s offerings in Thailand are capable of running on E85 gasohol, the V40 takes E20 at the most and doesn’t have an engine related to those in the bigger S60 and V60.
