A comparison was also carried out on an experimental set
consisting of a roof top with a soil depth of 0.10 m with savanna
grass, a roof top with a soil depth of 0.10 m with manila grass, and
an exposed roof top. Heat transfer calculations were made on the
experimental model and the results are shown in Fig. 7. From this
comparison, it appears that the grass type has an effect on heat
transfer through the roof. Fig. 7 shows that savanna grass can
reduce heat gain more effectively than manila grass by 69%.
Fig. 8 shows that evaporative cooling by RLGs can lower roof
temperatures substantially compared to that of bare roofs. This will
reduce the heat gain of buildings.
