FNP Analysis of Attendance Patterns
Based on the recommendations to check attendance on the
30th school day described by Chang and Romero (2008)
of the NCCP, the FNP obtained a cumulative absence report
from the two elementary schools and Head Start data managers.
Using definitions from the NCCP, the FNP categorized
students by grade and school for good attendance
(4% absent); moderate absence (5–9%); chronic absence
(10–19%), and excessive absence (20%). Between school
days 30–35, the FNP met with the school nurses and social
workers and telephoned parents of students whose attendance
was categorized as chronically absent and assessed
the reasons.
