6. Conclusions and policy implication
Diffusion research has been applied to various fields, especially marketing, in that it can forecast the number of adopters (Mahajan et al., 1990). Recently, factors affecting the diffusion of communication technologies have been analyzed actively. For example, complementary technologies (Gandal et al., 2000), usage intensity (Grajek and Kretschmer, 2009), and critical mass (Grajek and Kretschmer, 2010) are emphasized as the key factors of the diffusion of communication technologies. Furthermore, Koski and Kretschmer (2005) and Hwang et al. (2009) emphasize, respectively, that standardization policy and government regulations are stimulating the competition among firms for technology diffusion.
