Algorithmic Overview: Seizario uses the movement sensor of the smartphone, coupled with optimized mobile algorithms for detection. The algorithms utilize the tri-axial (3D) accelerometer, total force, vectorgeometry, moving averages, and optimal thresholds to detect seizure convulsions and falls. Fig 2 shows the accelerometer readings for walking vs. seizure, while Fig 3 shows the various phases of a person fall. As illustrated in these figures, there are distinct characteristics of seizure convulsions and falls, different from everyday activities (e.g., walking, up/down stairs).One main design goal of our mobile algorithms is to beable to clearly distinguish emergency-related activities from normal activities.
