The first row of Table 3, panel 1 confirms that the impact of
the Huai River policy on TSPs is robust to adjustment for the
covariates and the alternate RD approach (SI Appendix, Fig.
S3). The remaining rows suggest that this policy increases
mortality rate by 22–30% and that this is almost entirely due
to higher rates of mortality among cardiorespiratory causes.
The estimates in the final row indicate that there is a discontinuous
decrease in life expectancy of ∼5 y to the north of the
boundary.
