The brain and ageing
The brain is like any working machine. It needs to be regularly used in order to main-tain its functions. The human adult brain contains approximately 100 000 million nerve cells (neurons), and every ten years after about the age of 40 about ten per cent of these neurons die and are not replaced. As you age, connections between your neurons contract, widening the gap between each, and thus slowing down your responses, coordination, reflexes and reactions.
