Stella experienced preterm labor symptoms only once at 32 weeks of her pregnancy and was sent home from the hospital after several hours of observation. Stella was happy about quitting her stressful job as she had experienced considerable stress in her workplace. Stella had friends and family members who were able to visit her and provide meals but had recently broken off her stressful relationship with the baby ’ s father. Stella was given a form in the hospital triage unit that described what activities she was “ allowed ” to do and told to “ just go home on bed rest for 2 weeks. ” Because she experienced a relatively simple case of preterm labor (a single episode at 32 weeks), Stella was not referred for any follow-up in the community. Stella described what it was like for her to stay home on bed rest.
