McDonald's has had its share of product flops over the years (ever heard of the McLean, the Arch Deluxe, or McPizza?). But the company has learned from its past mistakes. Under the Plan to Win, McDonald's now pursues what the industry calls "platforms" rather than random, one-hit wonders. For example, chicken is a platform, and McNuggets, Chicken Selects, and Chicken McBites are products under that platform.
