Kobayashi et al. (2012) obtained similar results on thermophilic
batch test digestion for hydrogen production from several subfractions
of domestic waste from the city of Kyoto. The highest
hydrogen yield was in fact obtained with the fraction ‘‘cereal
waste’’, with a value of 150 ml H2/gVS, very similar to the average
data for the fraction BP found in this study. The results from the
fraction BP also agree with data obtained by Okamoto et al.
(2000) and Dong et al. (2009) from rice, and by Giordano et al.
(2011) from common and durum wheat bran, in all cases from
batch tests at mesophilic conditions, similarly to the present study
