Supervised exercise therapy associated with an educational component has been considered one of the most effective interventions in reducing pain and disability in patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain. The effects of exercise therapy tend to remain for at least 6 months after treatment compared with usual care. Furthermore, there is evidence that exercises
also may reduce the number of recurrent episodes of low back pain. The Back School method (a
group-based treatment approach) and the McKenzie method (an individually based treatment approach) are good active therapy options that include both exercises and education for the treatment of patients with chronic low back pain.
