The data regarding the assessment schemes employed by online distance courses at a large mid-west university are summarized in Table 2. A closer look at the data in Table 2 sheds light on the question of whether or not the recommendations of the experts are reflected in the assessment schemes of online distance courses at a large mid-west university. In the following sections, the authors will discuss the extent to which each major principle or aspect of effective assessment in online distance courses is being applied in practice.
