After molluscs, Cd was present also in crustacean: these species
tend to accumulate heavy metals such as Cd, Cu and Zn particularly
in the digestive gland (Engel and Brower, 1986). We compared our
results with literature taking into consideration the most representative
species of this category in our study, H. americanus (43
samples) caught in North-Western Atlantic Ocean:we obtained
23 mg kg1 for Cd, 68 mg kg1 for Hg and 20 mg kg1 for Pb; Barrento
et al. (2008) obtained similar values for Cd (20 mg kg1
) and Hg
(100 mg kg1
), and a slightly higher concentration for Pb
(100 mg kg1
).
