20 Basically, the Accused denied that Lee handed all the 1000 pieces of the handphones to him on 1 May 2006. In fact, he stated that he did not meet Lee on 1 May 2006 and he could not have as he did not open his shop on public holidays [note: 11] . He also stated that he could not have paid Lee $8700 on 1 May 2006 without receiving any money from the Chinese businessman as he did not have the financial means to buy the handphones. He stated that the transaction was only concluded two to three weeks after Lee first contacted him and on the third day after he first met the Chinese businessman. He stated that this took place on a weekday sometime in early May 2006 – “ It is close to Election Day [note: 12] ”
21 The Accused also denied that he ever told Lee that he did not want to know the origins of the phones. According to him, during the three days when he handled the handphones, he did not know and neither did he suspect that the phones had been stolen. He stated that he did not ask Lee from where he got the phones “ Because an exporter will never reveal where their supply is from [note: 13] ” He also explained that he did not have a practice of issuing receipts and that he would only issues cash receipts to customers when they request for them [note: 14]
