Course Description
Applied Graphic Arts explores the theoretical and applied applications of graphic arts. Students focus on the following areas of study: typography, design history, illustration, photography, web design, promotional art and 3D modeling. By the completion of Applied Graphic Arts 15/25/35, students have a sophisticated understanding of the process of commercial printing and graphic design.
Course Philosophy
Students can and should become actively involved in experiencing visual communications through learning about the history of design, creating design, and responding to design. A sound arts education includes the development of critical analysis skills. While some students enjoy creating art, all students can enjoy the aesthetic experience provided by art.

In Applied Graphics Arts courses, students develop skills in working with digital media to complete various tasks. Along the way, and more importantly, they learn to adapt quickly to the affordances and constraints of technology, and problem-solve their way through processes, simple and complex, along the way--skills that will cross over into their work in other courses.
