Then we have the history of the seven sins. Turns out there actually was an 8th cardinal sin back in the olden days, JUST LIKE TSUBAKI. And guess what, THE SIN WAS MELANCHOLY. But, it was removed in the middle ages for being too similar to the sin of Sloth. This certainly explains why Tsubaki isn’t fond of Kuro, but we also have the note of the eves acting as the truths or virtues of their sins. With that in mind, our lovely boy here Mahiru would definitely serve as the virtue then to both Sloth and Melancholy. This seemed to be further highlighted in episode 12 of the anime with the oh so symbolic and spoiler worthy key being formed with Tsubaki. It’s pretty much confirmed Mahiru is the key, so it makes sense someone else is watching him too. Whatever these properties are of the key they’re very valuable to a few people–that’s for damn certain. So who is this mystery person watching Mahiru supposedly?
And you know… Mahiru’s uncle as well… what’s he up to? Haven’t seen him for a while… Yet there’s this strange mysterious person now that’s supposedly keeping an eye on Mahiru’s progress with these vampires? Granted, Mahiru’s human friends dropped off as well, but not like his uncle. Those two made a reappearance right before the C3 arc. Mahiru’s uncle? No where to be seen… And it’s his apartment. Now… what kind of job keeps you away from home THAT much… -stares at the example of Junichirou and Takuto- -looks back at Mahiru’s uncle- Granted, Mahiru’s uncle casually had lunch with Tsubaki, disregarding Mahiru’s fear entirely, and finding Tsubaki quite interesting… it makes you wonder a little.
…If Mahiru’s mother was not actually killed by a car, but it was a vampire attack–why her? And why did Mahiru’s uncle step up to take him in when no one else would? Wouldn’t a ‘simple’ solution have been to place him in foster care if his uncle was such a work-o-holic that’s never around to even take care of a kid? Or was there an ulterior motive camping out here like perhaps WANTING to guide Mahiru along a certain path. Now… I’m not SAYING Mahiru’s uncle COULD be the president of C3 or anything, because that’s a damn wild boast but… does make you wonder…
And if that’s not enough food for thought to chew on what happened to Mahiru’s dad? We have absolutely no idea… don’t know that many deets on mum either and this is getting pretty late in the story. Think uh… there be some mysteries to solve in the Mahiru department, and this definitely isn’t the last of C3 we’re going to be seeing either…
With all of this swimming around in my head, personally I’m starting to see Mikuni more as a mid-boss sort of character or right-hand man. Which… if he is… there may actually be hope for the poor guy.
