Uganda witnessed a significant decrease in HIV prevalence during
the period of 1990-2000, because of the strict implementation of ABC
model (i.e. Abstinence, Being faithful to one partner, and Condom
use).19 However, the fact is that, recently the prevalence of HIV in
Uganda has been increased which has also raised the question of the
success of ABC model,6 as well as also indicates a wider gap in HIV
prevalence between men and women.
