LOD was evaluated as the mass giving a signal equal to three times the noise (S/N = 3); LOQ was determined as the mass giving a signal equal to ten times that of the blank (S/N = 10). The calculated LOD and LOQ using standard solutions were 0.4 and 1.0 lgml1, respectively. LOD and LOQ conform with AOAC guideline (AOAC, 2013). The analysis of carmine via high-performance liquid chromatography can be useful in quality control during and after production of food products containing carmine.
