Given the importance of an adequate intake of vitamin
D during adulthood and possible repercussions in the
elderly, there are few studies that have investigated the
dietary intake of vitamin D in the adult population and
none of these have been performed in a representative
sample of the Spanish population. The present study
assessed vitamin D intake, the main dietary sources of
this nutrient and its adequacy with respect to dietar reference intake (DRI) in a representative sample of Spanish
adults, aiming to add information as a first step in the
search for guidelines to improve vitamin D status.
