Television programs featuring physicians were a popular source of health information, suggesting an avenue to improve stroke awareness. A 30 s television advertisement was effective in raising residents’ ability to name stroke symptoms in participant communities (Silver, Rubini, Black, &Hodgson, 2003). Culturally relevant programming
on community access channels may be an effective way to communicate stroke information to African American women. Such programming could be viewed in a group at a church or other community setting with a health professional who could engage participants in discussion on stroke. Given the time constraints of practitioners, programming about
stroke on television sets in waiting rooms might be an alternative or addition to clinician stroke education
