In energy, while GMS countries have made big strides in interconnecting power systems to enable bilateral power trade, the regional power infrastructure is still a long way off from undertaking advanced(multi-country) power trading as envisioned under the GMS Inter-Governmental Agreement on Regional Power Trading (IGA). This is due to substantial gaps in the levels of power infrastructure development and differences in technical standards and practices in individual countries. The GMS countries are however addressing these challenges by slowly but continually working on interconnecting their respective power systems guided by the updated master plan on GMS power interconnections.
