● Our data suggest an overall increase in the incidence
of secondary psoas abscess and emphasize
the role of the spine as the primary source of
infection.
● Treatment includes surgical intervention and antibiotic
therapy. In patients with high operative
risk, percutaneous drainage can be sufficient.
● Because of unspecific symptomatology, psoas
abscess is often associated with delayed diagnosis.
● A high index of suspicion and early onset of therapy
can reduce the high mortality rates of psoas
abscess.
