See attached for an example of the "feed me" section they would like incorporated into the Long Chim lunch/dinner menu.
I've copied and pasted my questions and their answers (in caps) below. Hope this helps clarify things a bit more. It seems that they do want a hard back cover for the dessert and bar menus and they plan on laminating the lunch/dinner menu.
When do you expect to have revised layouts for review?
Thanks,
Travis
Lunch/Dinner Menu
We removed the red talisman frank mark and the blue circles from the layout and it's left feeling quite dull and boring. We miss the bold graphic punch of both, and especially the modern touch the circles provided to counterbalance the authenticity of the natural paper and weathered graphics. How strongly do you feel about eliminating these elements?
I THINK WE WILL NEED TO SEE WHAT YOU MEAN. WE WERE SPLIT ON THE BLUE CIRCLES – SOME LIKE THEM, SOME DON’T. THE FRANK MARK LOOKS REALLY OUT OF PLACE NOW ALTHOUGH THE TALISMAN DESIGN NEEDS TO BE IN THE OVERALL DESIGN SOMEWHERE (INTEGRATED INTO THE CORNER OF THE FRAMEWORK?). DAVID COLE IS WORKING ON THE BROADER ID FOR ART WORK AND FINISH FOR THE RESTAURANT – I WOULD ASK THAT YOU CO-ORDINATE WITH HIM AS THIS EVOLVES OVER THE COMING FEW WEEKS SO AS TO FIND HARMONIOUS DESIGN ELEMENTS THAT CAN BRING DETAILED AND INTERESTING GRAPHIC PUNCH BACK INTO THE MENU.
In regards to the border graphic, we're experimenting with alternate frame types and the general feeling we're getting is that the overly ornate and delicate options are reading too precious and not enough "of the street." We think the simplified, more rigid line graphic border treatments work best. Can you shed more light on the examples you provided as reference?
I DON'T THINK WE WERE TRYING TO BE TOO LITERAL. PLEASE TAKE CHARGE OF THIS AND PRESENT WHAT YOU LIKE.
Dessert Menu
Is there a reason why we wouldn't keep this menu to paper only like lunch/dinner? I think it's a confusing message to have a paper food menu and a dessert menu presented on a stiff board. The board immediately elevates the experience that the dinner menu doesn't have.
I HAVE FAILED TO EXPLAIN WHAT I AM THINKING. THE DESSERT MENU AND THE BAR MENU WILL CHANGE REGULARLY (WHEREAS THE BIG MAIN MENU WILL NOT) AND SO WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO KEEP A STOCK OF SMALL HIGH QUALITY WATERMARKED LONG CHIM PAPER (A5 SIZE?) AND BE ABLE TO MAKE CHANGES AND DO A REPRINT USING A LASER PRINTER IN-HOUSE. AS THIS IS ON PAPER RATHER THAN LAMINATED CARD WE WILL WANT TO THEN INSERT THE MENU INTO A BACK HOLDER. DOES THE ATTACHED SCREEN SHOT HELP TO EXPLAIN BETTER?
Bar Menu
Same thoughts as above in reference to the holder.
