Even though both medical and nursing literature
are replete with information on the possible etiology
and treatment of HG, there is little published information
concerning the toll HG takes on the daily
lives of those women who experience severe nausea
and vomiting for much of their pregnancy. An
understanding of the impact of HG on a woman’s
self-concept, attitude about pregnancy, and her
assumption of the maternal role is needed for the
provision of optimal nursing care.
