Energy homeostasis is one of the main tasks of the body. Regulation and retour of energetic molecules like glucose and FAs is a complex process in the body in which all cells are involved. Adipose tissue, skeletal muscle and liver are the main metabolic organs in the body. The normal function of these metabolic organs is represented as normoglycemic and normolipidemic states in the circulation. Understanding the biochemistry of carbohydrates and lipids is one of the main steps towards comprehending the pathophysiology of metabolic diseases like metabolic syndrome, diabetes and dyslipidemia. This review summarizes and illustrates a general view on the biochemistry of carbohydrates. The goal of this attempt is to facilitate the understanding of co mplex biochemical pathways for researchers.
