Although it takes a lot of experience to be able to recognize the quality of true jade, it is sometimes possible to carry out certain simple tests on fake jade. For example, a polymer coating can be scratched off with a sharp object. A dyed stone can be identified if the color is strongest in the veins or if a bluish tint is visible. Glass and plastic imitations do not weigh as much as real jade. In addiyion, they are usually softer and sometimes have tiny bubbles near the surface.
