The Netherlands is both an important market and (re-)exporter of coconut oil in Europe. The country is responsible for more than half of the overall import into the EU and EFTA, being a major entry point for exporters in developing countries (DCs) to access the European market. After a period of high prices and slight market decline, the Dutch market is picking up in terms of growth. Lower coconut oil prices increase its potential as a substitute for other vegetable oils, but exporters are required to meet food safety standards to an increasing extent, to avoid contamination.
