For Sample 2, the HOPES-HFI clients’ self-reported history of depressive symptoms and
treatment reveals that less than half (41.7% n=55) had experienced a sad mood or loss of
interest in their activities for at least two weeks during pregnancy or the postpartum period.
Many (40.2% n=53) reported they had received professional treatment in the past, and
22.3% (n=29) had used medication for depression during pregnancy or the postpartum
period. Regardless of whether they had received professional treatment in the past, most
(91.9%, n=114) felt professional counseling would be at least “somewhat helpful” and
83.1% (n=103) felt that medication would be at least “somewhat helpful.”
