Attraction Details: Phu Khao Ya or Grass Hill has many names but the local residents referred to a Swiss pasture. This hill is something of an anomaly because it has treeless but covered instead by a thick blanket of grass. Numerous walking trails and good vantage points offering unbroken views of the countryside make this hill is one of the most popular destination in Ranong. In the rainy season, the mountain is verdant green becoming brown in summer, it is an amazing attraction that can be visited throughout the year. Although Ranong is quite hilly, there is none as outstanding and noticeable as this mountain. A gravel path takes the visitor up through the lower reaches. Going up not too high, you will arrive at a mountain ridge that offers a 360-degree panorama. Below is a view of a complete mangrove forest in the west and a bird’s-eye view of Ngow waterfall on the opposite side. The Grass Mountain can be walked all year round. If you want to see the mountain in resplendent green, come in the rainy season from May to October, but if you would like to see Glass Mountain changing to gold visit in the dry season from November to April.
